The Forum Schweizer Geschichte in Schwyz was inaugurated in 1995 and forms together with the Landesmuseum Zürich and the Château de Prangins, the Swiss National museum. The three upper floors are used by the permanent exhibition "Switzerland in the Making" and the lower floor is used for temporary exhibitions.
Its home is a Baroque granary and armoury dating from 1711.

During the renovations between 1992 and 1994 to plans by Andi Scheitlin, Marc Syfrig and Hans Steiner, a spiral staircase tower was added at the center of the building.
