Opened in 1889, Amsterdam's main railways station, Amsterdam Centraal, was designed by Dutch architect Pierre Cuypers, who is also known for his work on the Rijksmuseum. The station's design, a blend of Gothic and Renaissance Revival styles, reflects Cuypers' architectural vision and the grand aspirations of the late 19th century.

Amsterdam Centraal has undergone several expansions and modernizations to accommodate the growing number of travelers and advancements in rail technology. The station now features a range of amenities, including shops, restaurants, and direct connections to the city's tram and metro networks. The glass roof of Amsterdam Centraal with the distinctive "AMSTERDAM" letters was designed by Dutch architectural firm Benthem Crouwel Architects and completed in 2014.
