Romanesque Architecture

Romanesque architecture, which developed in Europe during the 10th to 12th centuries, is recognized as the first pan-European architectural style since antiquity. It is characterized by its massive quality, thick walls, round arches, barrel and groin vaults, and large towers. Inspired by Roman engineering, particularly in its use of the semicircular arch and stone vaulting, the style was primarily used for churches, abbeys, and monasteries, reflecting the growing influence of Christianity and monasticism.
