Romainmôtier is a member of the "most beautiful villages in Switzerland". The first monastery was built here around 450 by Romanus of Condat. The current Abbey Church was built between 990 and 1028 to the plans of the Cluny church and is one of the oldest Romanesque churches in Switzerland.
