The museum was founded in 2009 by the Alain Bordier Foundation. It is housed inside the Chaplaincy and chapel of St. Joseph in Gruyères, built in 1890 and contains over 400 artworks collected by Alain Bordier over 30 years.
The sculpture of a great teacher was created in Tibet between 1450 and 1550 using copper sheets. It is shown in front of the original stained glass windows showing Jesus, Mary and Joseph.
