The Beyeler foundation was created in 1982 by Swiss art dealers Ernst Beyeler and Hilda Kunz. The collection includes more than 200 works of classic modernism. With more than 300000 yearly visitors, Fondation Beyeler is the most visited art museum in Switzerland.
Designed by Renzo Piano and completed in 1997, the museum building is located inside the Berower Park in Riehen, near Basel. The entire museum building is filled with natural light and the walls use porphyry, a volcanic rock. The total exhibition space is close to 4000 square meters.
