The Great Court was designed by Norman Foster and opened in 2000. It is the largest covered square in Europe and its roof is composed of over 3000 glass panels, each with their own unique shape ! At the center is a circular, cast iron, reading room, designed by Sydney Smirke and completed in 1857.
