Museum Burghalde is a multi-disciplinary museum located in Lenzburg. It focuses on art and cultural history, serving as the primary museum for the city and region of Lenzburg. Housed within the historic architectural ensemble of the Burghalde, the museum itself is a testament to the region's rich heritage.
The Burghalde has housed the municipal museum since 1985.
Its basement is home to the Icon Museum, Switzerland’s only museum of icons. On display are over 60 sacred images of Russian origin.
The old Burghalde was built in 1628 for Hans Jacob Spengler. Among its standout features is the Baroque Hall constructed between 1704 and 1718 and adorned with an elaborate stucco ceiling. Above the fireplace, an alliance coat of arms references the owners, Lucas and Margareta Gernler-Spengler.
The center of the ceiling features a central medallion with a small, six-petaled rosette. The corner medallions are decorated with allegorical representations of the four seasons in stucco.
The new Burghalde, a neoclassical villa, was built in 1793/94 by Johann Jakob Bär.
