Designed by Swiss architect Rodolphe Luscher, the home of the School of Computer and Communication Sciences was completed in 2004. The official name of the building is Bâtiment BC.
The building contains a huge rectangular atrium and its energy efficiency relies on daylight and natural ventilation. The colour choices were done by artist Jean-Francois Raymond.
Its staircase inspired the Scala logo. Martin Odersky started the design of the Scala programming language at EPFL in 2001. The first public release was in 2004.
