Situated in Château-d’Œx in the Vaudoise Alps, the Musée du Pays-d’Enhaut - established in 1922 - offers an exploration of past mountain life through a collection of objects that accompanied local inhabitants in both work and leisure.
The museum expansion, initiated in 2013 and inaugurated in 2022, maximizes space between the road and railway tracks. Designed by local architectural practice Blum Sieber Architectes, the concrete extension not only provides a new entrance hall and additional exhibition spaces, but also articulates an architectural language distinct from the traditional structures in the village.

The museum collection spans fifteen rooms, some of which recreate traditional chalet interiors and display painted and carved furniture, decorated tools, and bells. In addition, the museum exhibits drawings, engravings, watercolors, and period photographs that document the evolution of tourism in the region.

A significant aspect of the museum is its renowned collection of paper cut artworks, a tradition that dates back to the 17th century. Over time, local artisans developed this craft, creating distinctive pieces that are now recognized as part of the region’s cultural heritage. In November 2022, the museum expanded to incorporate the Swiss Centre for Paper Cut. The centre now houses a collection of 600 paper cut works and offers temporary exhibitions, demonstrations, workshops, and conferences.
