The Stock Exchange building in Brussels was constructed between 1868 and 1873 on the site of the former Butter Market. Designed by architect Léon-Pierre Suys, the building reflects an eclectic blend of architectural influences, drawing primarily from the Neo-Renaissance and Second Empire styles.

The roof is supported by four massive piers adorned with attached Corinthian columns. On the inner pediment facing Rue du Midi, four caryatids sculpted by Auguste Rodin and Antoine van Rasbourg represent Protection, Trade, Art, and Victory. In 1893, architect Jules Brunfaut added the large skylights that now illuminate the interior.
