Brig: Architectural Landmarks and Museums

Nestled at the foot of the Simplon Pass in the canton of Valais, the city of Brig has long held strategic importance as a gateway between northern and southern Europe. Its very name derives from the Latin briva, meaning bridge, a reference to its historic role as a crossing point over the Rhône River. Brig flourished particularly in the 17th century leading to the construction of the grand Stockalperschloss.
