Haus zum Kirschgarten was built between 1775 and 1780 for wealthy silk ribbon manufacturer Johann Rudolf Burkhardt. Together with the Musikmuseum and the Barfüßerkirche, it is now part of the Basel Historical Museum.
Haus zum Kirschgarten was constructed based on plans by architect Johann Ulrich Büchel. It is considered the first classicist town house in Switzerland. The red sandstone facade is symmetrical and features three stories and a central entrance portal framed by pilasters.
