Villa Langmatt in Baden was built in 1901 for Sidney Brown, technical director at the nearby Brown, Boweri & Cie company. The plans were by Swiss architect Karl Moser.
The library of one of their three sons, Sidney H. Brown is located on the first floor. He worked for the International Commitee of the Red Cross during the Second Italo-Ethiopian War and later published the book “For the Red Cross in Ethiopia” on his experience.
It was extended in 1906 with a gallery wing for the Brown family's growing painting collection. Villa Langmatt is a museum since 1990.
In 2023, Museum Langmatt presented the first solo exhibition of Australian artist Ash Keating in Europe. Haus Germann, in the museum’s park was given a new coat of paint …. using fire extinguishers instead of the traditional brushes!
