Francesco Borromini

Born in 1599 as Francesco Castelli in Bissone, near Lake Lugano in today's Switzerland, Francesco Borromini moved to Rome in 1619. His works revolutionized Baroque architecture through their innovative designs, dramatic use of geometry, and masterful manipulation of light and space. Among his most famous buildings are Sant’Ivo alla Sapienza, Sant'Agnese in Agone and the Colonnade of Perspective at Palazzo Spada. He died by suicide in 1667.
