The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi is a cultural landmark and one of the world’s largest mosques. Inaugurated in 2007, it was built in honor of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, one of the UAE's founding fathers, and serves as a symbol of unity and diversity in the region. Designed by Syrian architect Yousef Abdelky, the mosque combines traditional and contemporary Islamic art and architecture, with influences from multiple countries.
The Grand Mosque features 82 domes, over a thousand columns, and four minarets that soar to nearly 107 meters. The central prayer hall houses one of the world’s largest chandeliers, intricately decorated with Swarovski crystals, alongside the largest hand-knotted carpet, crafted in Iran.
The mosque’s 17,000 square meters large courtyard features a floral mosaic, one of the largest in the world, symbolizing the intricate design and craftsmanship characteristic of the mosque. Surrounding reflective pools enhance the building’s beauty, creating a serene, mirror-like effect.
