Qasr Al Watan (Palace of the Nation) is a cultural landmark and working presidential palace located in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. Opened to the public in March 2019, it serves as both a ceremonial space for state functions and a museum dedicated to showcasing the heritage, history, and governance of the UAE.
Built between 2010 and 2017, Qasr Al Watan is a stunning example of Arabian architectural grandeur, blending traditional Islamic design elements with modern construction techniques. Its sprawling complex covers an area of 380,000 square meters, characterized by white granite and limestone facades.
The palace is known for its intricate detailing, featuring traditional Arabesque patterns, expansive domes, geometric designs, and extensive use of marble. The centerpiece of the structure is the Great Hall, designed by French interior designer Xavier Cartron, measuring 100 meters by 100 meters. Its grand dome measures 37 meters in diameter and serves as a focal point for visitors. The interiors are adorned with mosaic patterns, ornate chandeliers, and gold detailing, embodying the opulence and craftsmanship of Arabian design.
The Banquet Hall features seating for 300 people. Spirit of Collaboration is the meeting room of the Federal Supreme Council. Its chandelier has 350,000 pieces of crystal.
"Power of Words" is a cage-like sculpture created by Emirati artist Mattar bin Lahej. Weighing six tonnes and finished in gleaming gold, the piece features an intricately interwoven inscription of an Arabic quote attributed to the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan: "Wealth is not money or oil; wealth lies in people and it is worthless if not dedicated to serve the people."
The palace is also home to the Presidential Library, which holds a significant collection of books and manuscripts related to Arab history, culture, and science. The library serves as a research center, reflecting the UAE’s dedication to fostering education and knowledge sharing.
