In 1953, Jean Prouvé designed a modular petrol station for Mobiloil Socony-Vacuum. It was then serially manufactured.

The one installed on the Vitra Campus in 2003 is one of only three remaining stations. It initially stood at "Relais des Sangliers" in the Département Haute-Loire.
