The Eiffel Tower, an iconic symbol of Paris and a marvel of engineering, was designed by the French engineer Gustave Eiffel and his company for the 1889 Exposition Universelle. The tower's construction began in January 1887 and took just over two years, completing in March 1889. Standing 330 meters tall, it was the world's tallest man-made structure until the completion of the Chrysler Building in New York City in 1930.
The Eiffel Tower's design is a remarkable example of the iron lattice structure, employing over 18,000 individual iron parts and about 2.5 million rivets. Its unique architectural style faced significant opposition from some of Paris's leading artists and intellectuals at the time. However, it has since become one of the most recognized and celebrated landmarks in the world.
