The Ukrainian Catholic St. John the Baptist parish in Ottawa was formed in 1914. The current church in Konstantin Thon's Neo-Byzantine style was built in 1987.

The artworks were created under the direction of Lubomyr Medvid, professor at the Lviv Academy of Fine Arts, assisted by Stepan Yuzefiv. The windows were produced by Mykola Shymchuk, professor at the Lviv Academy of Arts, Orest Tarnavskyj and Ihor Tarnavskyj, also from Lviv.
