Tenju-an, a serene sub-temple of the Nanzen-ji complex in Kyoto, was established in 1337. After being destroyed by fire, the main hall and main gate were reconstructed in 1602.

The temple grounds feature two distinct gardens that beautifully capture the essence of Japanese landscape design. The first is a dry landscape garden (Hojo Front Garden), characterized by its meticulously raked gravel, carefully placed rocks, and sparse vegetation. The second garden (Shoin Southern Garden) is a lush, pond-centered garden, filled with vibrant greenery, serene water features, and picturesque walking paths that invite leisurely exploration and reflection.
