Nison-in Temple, located in the scenic Arashiyama district of Kyoto, was founded in the 9th century by Emperor Saga. It belongs to the Tendai sect of Buddhism. The temple's name, which translates to "Hall of the Two Revered Images," refers to the principal deities enshrined within: Shaka Nyorai (the historical Buddha) and Amida Nyorai (the Buddha of Infinite Light).
One of the temple's notable features is its impressive main gate which was first built in 1613 at the site of Fushimi Castle and has since been relocated here.
