The European Solidarity Center in Gdansk was designed by FORT Architects and opened in 2014 on the 25th anniversary of the signing of the August Accords.

The international architectural competition for the European Solidarity Center in 2007 received no less than 58 submissions. The submission by local architectural practice FORT of an irregularly shaped building covered in Corten steel reminiscent of a ship was selected as the winner.

The European Solidarity Center is indeed located right next to historical Gate No. 2 of the Gdańsk Shipyard.
The European Solidarity Center presents the history of the the Solidarity movement and was awarded the Council of Europe Museum prize for 2016.

The museum's main exhibition occupies 3,000 square meters and it spread over two floors. Its entrance hall is filled with trees and lawns.

The European Solidarity Center is located next to the Monument to the Fallen Shipyard Workers of 1970. The monument was designed in 1980 by Bogdan Pietruszka, Wiesław Szyślak, Wojciech Mokwiński and Jack Krenz. It was the first monument commemorating the victims of communist oppression to be erected in a communist country.
