The Grandly Viaduct in Fribourg, crossing the Saane/Sarine was built between 1925 and 1927 with Swiss civil engineer Robert Maillard as an advisory engineer. Above the footpath are the SBB train tracks used in particular by the Fribourg - Bern trains.
This was the second SBB bridge to use similar construction techniques, the first one being the Le Day Viaduct built between 1923 and 1925 and used today by the TGV Lyria trains between Lausanne and Paris.
