The Saar Polygon is a 30 meters high monument commemorating the coal mining industry in Saarland. Designed by Berlin architect duo Katja Pfeiffer and Oliver Sachse, the walk-through sculpture purposely has different shapes dependingĀ on the direction it is viewed from. Constructed started at the end of 2015 and the monument was inaugurated in September 2016.
The sculpture features two slanting towers with 132 steps and a 35 meters long viewing platform linking them.
The Saar Polygon stands on the 150 meters high spoil tip of the Bergwerk Saar coal mine in Ensdorf.
