Tadeusz Kantor was a Polish artist, stage director, and theorist, born in Wielopole Skrzyńskie in 1915. He is best known for his groundbreaking work in theater, particularly as the founder of Cricot 2, an experimental company that merged visual arts with performance. Influenced by Dada, Surrealism, and Constructivism, his productions, such as The Dead Class (1975), combined memory, history, and personal trauma, often referencing Poland’s wartime past. Beyond theater, Kantor was a prolific painter, scenographer, and creator of Multipart, a series of abstract works that explored chance and destruction. He passed away in Kraków in 1990.
