Jean Tinguely

Jean Tinguely was a Swiss artist best known for his kinetic sculptures and mechanical installations, which combined movement and humor. Born in Fribourg in 1925 and later moving to Basel, Tinguely became a key figure in the avant-garde art scene of the 20th century. His works, often playful yet thought-provoking, aimed to challenge traditional notions of art and technology while exploring the transient nature of life. Throughout his career, Tinguely collaborated with other notable artists, including his wife, the artist Niki de Saint Phalle. Together, they created several large-scale public works, including the Stravinsky Fountain near the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Jean Tinguely passed away in 1991.
