Jean Dubuffet

French painter Jean Dubuffet was born in Le Havre, France, in 1901. Initially working in his family's wine business, he fully committed to painting in the 1940s, rejecting traditional aesthetic values in favor of spontaneous, textured, and unconventional materials such as sand, tar, and plaster. His series "Hautes Pâtes" (Thick Pastes) brought him international recognition. His connection to Lausanne is particularly significant, as he donated his vast Collection de l’Art Brut to the city in 1971, establishing the world’s first museum dedicated to outsider art at the Château de Beaulieu. He passed away in Paris in 1985.
