Donato Bramante was an Italian architect and painter whose innovative designs established the foundation for High Renaissance architecture. Born in 1444 in Monte Asdrualdo (now Fermignano), near Urbino, Bramante initially trained as a painter, influenced by the works of Piero della Francesca and Mantegna. He later shifted his focus to architecture. Bramante’s work is characterized by its classical elegance and harmonious proportions. His major works include the Tempietto of San Pietro in Montorio and the initial plans for the St. Peter’s Basilica. He passed away in 1514.
